What actually shortens joint life in Hancock Park.
Decades of deck movement leave a mark. On a pool that has been in the ground thirty or forty years, the joint has already absorbed a great deal of expansion and contraction, the walls have been cut and recut, and the channel is often wider and more irregular than it started. None of that is a problem for a properly sized bead on correctly set backer rod, but it is exactly the situation where a rushed job fails fast. In Hancock Park that shows up on the decks around Windsor Square border, Larchmont Village, Fremont Place and June Street, which is where most of our Los Angeles County work starts: a joint that still looks continuous from the patio door and is already open when you kneel on it.
