01Local Conditions
What actually shortens joint life in Imperial Beach.
Two things shorten joint life this close to the water. The first is chloride, which arrives on the breeze whether or not anyone swims, and attacks the bond line rather than the sealant itself. The second is the marine layer. Mornings stay damp well past sunrise, so the joint spends hours wet, then bakes in the afternoon. That wet to dry swing, every single day, is harder on a sealant bead than a much hotter inland climate that stays dry. In Imperial Beach that shows up on the decks around Seacoast Drive, Palm Avenue corridor and Bayside, which is where most of our San Diego County work starts: a joint that still looks continuous from the patio door and is already open when you kneel on it.
02Decks We Seal
The decks and coping we work on around Imperial Beach.
Most of what we seal here is cantilever deck running straight to the waterline tile, or a precast cap with a narrow joint behind it. Cantilever edges are unforgiving, because there is no coping stone to hide a sloppy line: the bead is the finish, and it has to be tooled clean the whole way round. Sand finish is the sensible choice near the sand, since a smooth bead shows every footprint and stays slippery when wet. Every Imperial Beach job gets the same two sided bond and the same tooled finish just below deck level, so there is no lip to catch a bare foot and no dark stripe running round the pool.
03On The Day
How a job in Imperial Beach runs, from booking to cure.
A typical residential job here is one crew, one day. We arrive between eight and nine, cut and remove the old material wall to wall, prep both faces, set the rod, install the bead and clean up behind ourselves. All we need from you is the gate unlocked and pets kept inside while we work. The pool cannot be used for forty eight hours while the mastic cures, and you do not pay anything until the job is finished. Booking a Imperial Beach pool is the same process as any other. Measure the run, take the fixed price, pick your date. Nothing is charged until the work is finished and you have walked the joint with the crew.
